and when the night falls she let out a mighty shout
she said "Hey Coyote, come down from that mountain...

you see I got me a Raven to sit on top of my fountain
and when the rain come down, oh, my riverbed fills
the deer and the skunk, the muskrat & lynx
they all come down for some drinks
Hey Coyote, What do you think?"
Well Coyote said, "I got your riverbed
and it's folded up in my back pocket
and I plan to drink it up in my good time
but I got some demands, if you would like to unlock it....
we can make a deal, oh Goddess, oh Woman so fine..."
Well Aphrodite's heard these things before
she wouldn't let her riverbed stay captive anymore
because her Animals stood thirsty upon her river's mighty shores
so she whispered into Cupid's ear and said
"Let's end this war"
So Eros sent a golden arrow flyin' at Coyote in the dark
as he was lickin' his lips at a lovely little Kitten in the park
but the Kitten got away oh, and on Coyote left a mark
and to this day when a Dog sees a Cat, well they always bark.
and as Coyote was hangin' his head
Aphrodite stepped in and stole back the riverbed
So back to the desert
back to the hills
you can feed upon little birds, and mice and roadkill
and if you come near that river, Man'll have you shot
so if you wanna save your skin, Coyote,
I guess you'd better Not.
So in Arizona, Nevada, SoCal & L.A.
Coyote hides in the hills through the hot, dry day
and if he comes near a Kitten, well, he tends to rip it apart
cuz a Coyote'll never forget a broken heart!
And the river runs dry
from Mexicali down to Ojai
And the Raven and Coyote place the stars in the desert sky
